Materials Engineering / Metals

The Department of Materials Engineering teaches on the topics of structure and characterization of materials, heat treatment of metals, surface technology and corrosion, mechanical material properties and optimization of material properties, including those of composite materials, for practical application. Research is concerned with experimental and theoretical work, e.g. on the further development of heat treatment processes for highly stressed metallic components, on tribological and corrosion protection coatings, on the mechanical and structural characterization of materials and components, on modelling and simulation of component behaviour and service life investigations.
