Field 11: Materials Engineering / Metals

The Department of Materials Engineering teaches on the structure and characterization of materials, heat treatment of metals, surface technology and corrosion, mechanical material properties and optimization of material properties, also of composite materials, for practical application.

The research is concerned with experimental and theoretical work, e.g. for the further development of heat treatment processes for highly stressed metallic components, on tribological and corrosion protection coatings, for the mechanical and structural characterisation of materials and components, for modelling and simulation of component behaviour as well as service life investigations.
