The Wissenschaftlicher Arbeitskreis für Werkstofftechnik e.V. (WAW) is an association of 35 university professors and is one of the central promoters of scientific issues in materials technology in Germany. The focus of this long-standing working group is on

- young scientists
- national and international exchange of experience and networking
- interdisciplinary cooperation
- the development of regulations
- and projects and research priorities, both in basic research and with transfer to industry.

The regular conference on precisely these topics took place last weekend at the IWT in Bremen. It was a pleasure to be able to present the equipment and laboratories of the Leibniz-IWT to the renowned WAW members on this occasion and to introduce the institute to many faces in person.
