Review of a successful ECOMAT network project: "@All" completed
The ECOMAT network project "@All" has been investigating secondary structures in launch vehicles made of high-strength aluminium alloys since 2017 in order to make space travel more efficient and cost-effective in the future. The project, which was funded with around 1 million euros as part of the Bremen Aerospace Research Program, was successfully completed at the end of 2020. In a newly published article of the ECOMAT research network, Marcel Hesselmann reports on the exact goals of this project, on the interdisciplinary collaboration in ECOMAT and on his professional career starting at Leibniz-IWT.

In the Technology Centre "Center for Eco-efficient Materials & Technologies" - ECOMAT for short - actors from science and industry work together on projects in the field of lightweight construction, materials research and virtual product development in aircraft construction. This is also the case with the researchers from the Lightweight Materials Department at Leibniz-IWT.
The research association with over 500 researchers is located in Bremen's Überseestadt. There, experts from various renowned institutions devote themselves to highly complex solutions for lightweight construction with the help of shared laboratory equipment and technology. In this way, future technologies for more efficient air and ground vehicles, lower resource consumption and thus lower emissions are developed and advanced in a joint effort.
