At the Conference on Mineral By-products and Waste, organised by VIVis, the central importance of recycling as a contribution to climate protection was emphasised.

A presentation by the MPA Bremen and the RWB research association particularly emphasised the potential of active recycling. Our colleague Dipl.-Ing. Frank Hlawatsch from MPA Bremen/RWB used the example of the development of RC building products from aerated concrete rubble to show that although concrete recycling methods have already been researched and in part developed to market maturity, their potential is not yet sufficiently utilised in daily building practice. During the lecture, Mr. Hlawatsch appealed to all players in the construction sector, including demolition companies, processors, building material manufacturers, planners, construction companies, authorities and building owners: It is important to further raise awareness for recycling and to focus more on the development and application of resource-efficient building materials, so that the use of recycled building materials in the construction sector becomes the new normality.
