Internship between research and application
Research project at Leibniz-IWT Bremen
Today the Leibniz-IWT introduces Melina Blum, who is currently combining her master's degree in Applied Materials Science at Furtwangen University Campus Tuttlingen with practical experience here at Leibniz-IWT. In addition to her work as a student trainee at the medical technology company Aesculap AG, she is spending six weeks at the institute to combine her studies and project work with research.
Her project involves analyzing the potential of adapted exposure strategies on laser-additively manufactured overhangs. The focus is on surface investigations of roughness, density analyses, and the analysis of warping issues—all based on a metallic powder. Together with our team for lightweight materials, led by Dr. Anastasiya Tönjes, she works closely in the AM laboratory on machines and methods that combine research and practice. She is accompanied in her project by her Leibniz-IWT colleague Mika Altmann.
What she particularly appreciates about the institute is the diversity of the different research topics and the numerous research opportunities that open up new perspectives for her.
The Leibniz-IWT is delighted with Melina Blum's commitment and her enthusiasm for research at the institute.
