With a total of four scientific presentations, the program area Manufacturing Technologies was able to present its diverse work in the field of modelling at the Conference on Modeling of Machining Operations (CMMO) of the International Academy of Production Engineering (CIRP) at the end of May. Every two years, interested specialists meet at this specialist conference.
Dr.-Ing. Jens Sölter and Dr.-Ing. Lars Langenhorst each took on a session chair. Zhaoyu Chen presented exciting results on mechanical hammering, Lukas Schumski then spoke about innovations in vibration-assisted drilling. Gerrit Kuhlmann reported on research into the grinding of case-hardened workpieces at the institute and our colleague Sabrina Stemmer presented perspectives on the integration of empirical prior knowledge into artificial neural networks.
The city of Mons and the organizing university UMONS offered the best opportunities for in-depth discussions and networking among the 190 conference participants after the varied lecture program.
