Pedro de Castro receives Tom Bell Young Speaker Award

Honorable mention at the international conference of IFHTSE (International Federation for Heat Treatment and Surface Engineering) and ECHT (European Conference on Heat Treatment) in Salzburg: Pedro de Castro - a research associate from the Department of Physical Analysis - received a very positive response to his presentation entitled "Energy efficient manufacturing chain for advanced bainitic steels based on thermo-mechanical processing".
As part of his project in collaboration with colleagues from the UFRGS in Porto Alegre, Brazil, he developed a concept for the advanced production of machine and automotive components based on continuously bainitized forged steels without additional energy-intensive heat treatments. The development of new strategies in the manufacturing chain of mechanical components was presented by Mr. de Castro as a promising way to significantly increase energy efficiency in the production of metallic components in the future.
In competition with numerous interesting presentations from the worldwide expert community, Mr. de Castro's contribution was awarded the Tom Bell Young Speaker Award at the end. This honor is given annually to the best contribution by young scientists. The prize comes with an invitation to the next IFHTSE congress in Yokohama, Japan, including transportation, accommodation and conference fee.
