On 24 May 2021, our highly esteemed colleague Dipl.-Ing. Helge Decho passed away suddenly and completely unexpectedly.

Since 2010, Helge Decho had been working successfully in the Surface Technology department on research topics such as corrosion-resistant rolling bearings, heavy-duty tool coatings and biocompatible surfaces. With a high sense of responsibility and extraordinary professionalism, he has also been involved as deputy department head of Surface Technology for several years. At numerous conferences he convinced with his matter-of-fact manner and scientific way of working. Unfortunately, he was no longer able to complete his doctorate, which was due to be awarded shortly and which he would have completed with great success.

Helge Decho was very popular as an always level-headed, helpful and friendly colleague. Due to his many interests, he was also a valued conversational partner away from work. We will miss him greatly as a colleague, but more importantly as a person and friend.

Our sincere sympathy goes to his relatives and all those closely associated with him.
