Leibniz-IWT has recently become a member of the new "Netzwerk Oberflächentechnik Bremen". On July 6, a kick-off event was held with almost 30 participants at the Bremen Chamber of Commerce, where the members were able to introduce themselves and get to know each other. The coordinators Dr. Thomas Lukasczyk (Fraunhofer IFAM), Dr. Christoph Regula (Fraunhofer IFAM), and Andreas Köhler (Bremen Chamber of Commerce) provided information about concrete plans for the network.
According to the Bremen Innovation Strategy from June 2021, surface technology is one of the decisive cross-sectional technologies for almost all sectors of the economy. The " Netzwerk Oberflächentechnik Bremen" is therefore intended to act as a newly established link between research and the regional business and industrial sectors.
During the kick-off event, Dipl.-Ing. Henning Hasselbruch presented to the network the current focal points of the institute's own scientific department of surface technology. These include research into novel, friction-reducing hard and solid lubricant coatings, so-called tribological functional coatings and the various possibilities of PVD (physical vapor deposition) processes. Corrosion research and artificial intelligence in combination with machine learning result in another part of the research of the Surface Technology Department at the institute. For Leibniz-IWT, membership in the new network results in a number of opportunities for establishing contacts and new collaborations.
In addition to Leibniz-IWT and Fraunhofer IFAM, other members of the network include BIAS - Bremer Institut für angewandte Strahltechnik GmbH and the Faserinstitut Bremen, as well as the University of Bremen and the City University of Applied Sciences. Together, the various network partners form a strong community for diverse innovation approaches, which will be explored in greater depth at a first working meeting in early September.
