On December 6, 2019, the German Research Foundation (DFG) approved the research group "Ultrasonic Monitoring of Fiber-Metal Laminates with Integrated Sensors". The research group will use guided ultrasound waves to investigate the wave propagation in laminates. By means of a holistic physical approach, a complete automated damage diagnosis is to be achieved, which will contribute to a deeper understanding of wave propagation in layered material systems.
The research group is coordinated by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Sinapius from the TU Braunschweig. Four of the sub-project leaders come from the University of Bremen, including Dr.-Ing. Axel von Hehl, head of the Lightweight Materials Department at Leibniz-IWT. The project will be funded for three years from spring 2020.
