The "Quenching and Distortion Engineering" (QDE 2025) conference, originally launched by the Leibniz-IWT, entered its third round - and this time took place live on site again: Experts from around the world gathered in Vancouver from May 6-7.
Our Chairman of the Board of Directors of the IWT, Prof. Dr. Rainer Fechte-Heinen, took on a central role as Chairman and keynote speaker. Together with the research scientific Gabriel Ebner, they represented the Leibniz-IWT on this international stage - a valuable opportunity to present the institute's many years of expertise in this field and to discuss current developments in quenching and distortion technology.
The conference offered lectures, practical case studies on topics such as distortion control, quenching technologies, measurement of residual stresses, modeling and simulation as well as distortion in additive manufacturing complemented by a trade exhibition on innovations in materials technology. The parallel organization with AeroMat, AeroTech and the International Thermal Spray Conference (ITSC) enabled an interdisciplinary exchange.
