On 25.7.24, the winners of the renowned Schaeffler Innovation Award 2023 were honored in Schweinfurt. Dr.-Ing Heike Sonnenberg and Dr.-Ing Jonas Heinzel were awarded for their dissertations from their time at the Leibniz-IWT. 

Mrs Sonnenberg's outstanding research work made a significant contribution on the elastic-plastic deformation behavior of metallic microspheres under compressive load. Her work was supervised by Prof. Clausen at Leibniz-IWT. Mr Heinzel generated a significant advance in knowledge in order to be able to recognize thermal process limits during grinding. His research was supervised by Prof. Karpuschewski. 

The award is worth a total of up to 19,000 €. Every year, the Schaeffler FAG Foundation honours and recognises outstanding theses in engineering fields with this award.
