From Bremen to Japan. CIRP CSI 2026 once again brought together experts from academia and industry to discuss current developments and challenges in manufacturing and surface engineering. The event takes place every two years; this year it was held from May 19 to 22 in Yokohama, Japan. 

Several research staff members from the institute were featured in the event’s program through their scientific presentations:
Gerrit Kuhlmann and Dr.-Ing. Nicole Mensching presented current insights into their work; Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bernhard Karpuschewski and PD Dr.-Ing. habil. Daniel Meyer also played key roles as chairmen.

Even in the lead-up to the conference, Leibniz-IWT demonstrated a high level of commitment in the conference committees: on the Advisory Committee, as part of the Steering Committee, through its involvement in the Scientific Committee, and in its work for the Technical Committee. 

The CIRP CSI offers a valuable opportunity to discuss current research findings, strengthen international collaborations, and gain inspiration for future projects. Furthermore, the event facilitates direct exchange with leading experts from research and industry. It is therefore all the more gratifying that this format, originally established in Bremen, is now gaining global recognition.
