AWT badge of honor for Thomas Lübben
Award at the 81st Hardening Congress 2025
With his commitment and expertise, our colleague Dr.-Ing. Thomas Lübben has made a decisive contribution to the further development of materials technology over many years. Now enjoying his well-deserved retirement, he has been honored for his outstanding services at this year's Hardening Congress.
He began as a research assistant at the Leibniz-IWT in 1986, earned his doctorate in 1994 with a groundbreaking thesis on the simulation of heat treatment processes, and subsequently headed the working group “Quenching Technology and Heat Treatment Simulation.” From 2001 to 2011, he coordinated the Collaborative Research Center Distortion Engineering – Distortion Control in Manufacturing. With his international network, as organizer of the IDE - International Conference on Distortion Engineering, and in his leading role in many technical committees, Thomas Lübben has helped shape research in the field of heat treatment during his active career and beyond.
The Leibniz-IWT extends its sincere congratulations on this well-deserved award from the Working Group for Heat Treatment and Materials Technology (AWT)!
