Exchange students from France at the IWT

As part of the Erasmus study program, students from the Université de Lorraine in Nancy, France, were once again guests at the Leibniz-IWT and the University of Bremen in the summer semester of 2023. The 12 master students of the study program "Advanced Metallurgy" (materials science with focus on metallic materials) participated in different projects in the main department of materials engineering at the institute and were able to attend accompanying lectures.
The foreign exchange with the Université de Lorraine has taken place annually since 2006 and is coordinated by Dr.-Ing. Jérémy Epp. The stay in Bremen gives the international students at the IWT the opportunity to experience university teaching with their own research and thus the parallel practical application.
Another highlight of this year's visit was, among other things, the tour of the DESY synchrotron in Hamburg at the invitation of the Helmholtz Center Hereon, which operates several beamlines there. In this context, overview lectures on the use of synchrotron radiation were offered and the students had the opportunity to experience first-hand the various facilities and equipment used for cutting-edge research in engineering and materials science.
Finally, on 13 July, the project presentations of the Master students took place at the Leibniz-IWT, where the research topics of the stay were presented to the responsible lecturers as well as invited guests. Prof. Benoit Appolaire from the Institut Jean Lamour in Nancy also came to Bremen on this day to evaluate the project content and the students' performance together with their supervisors at the IWT. Everyone looked back with satisfaction on the past months and praised the successful exchange and the good cooperation.
