Antonio Silveira - research scientist of the department physical analysis - received the prestigious Paul Riebensahm Prize at the MaterialsWeek. The award is presented at the SteelInnovation and the Hardening Congress (HK), both of which are organised by the @Heat Treatment and Materials Technology e.V. (AWT), among others. At the SteelInnovation, Antonio Silveira impressed the jury with his outstanding presentation on ‘Tracking the microstructure evolution in X40CrMoV5-1 tool steel during Laser-directed energy deposition via in situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction and Atom probe tomography’ this year.
His presentation made a complex research topic accessible in a vivid way. In his presentation, which was based on the content of his doctoral thesis, Mr. Silveira explained the process of investigating microstructural changes during an additive manufacturing process of a tool steel. His approach utilises synchrotron high-energy X-ray diffraction and atom probe tomography to record the phase transformation and the precipitation behavior of the carbides during the AM process in detail.
The evaluation group particularly praised the current issues and the clearly recognizable practical relevance, the detailed picture of the processes involved and the wide variety of modern methods used.
According to the jury, Antonio Silveira's presentation and the subsequent discussion made a complex research topic accessible in a clear and competent way.
