Abstract:

The presentation gives an overview of current research results at the Leibniz-IWT Bremen on the effect of alloy-specific surface layer formation on the grindability of case-hardened gears. The focus is on a systematic analysis of the relationships between the alloy system, the formation of the outermost surface layer during case hardening and the effects on the gear grinding process. The results offer the potential to coordinate the choice of alloy system or case-hardening steel, the process control during heat treatment and the grinding process control strategy in a way that optimizes productivity and conserves energy and resources as much as possible.
