AWT-Seminar „Dimensional and Shape Changes in Manufacturing“
Event details
28359 Bremen
Germany
Dimensional and shape changes – also known as distortion – that occur during the manufacturing of metallic components cause high additional costs, as they lead to rework or even scrap. The work of the Collaborative Research Center "Distortion Engineering" has clearly shown that the causes of distortion can be distributed across the entire manufacturing chain. Nevertheless, dimensional and shape changes are a daily frustration in every heat treatment shop, as dissatisfied customers assume that the delivered component was perfectly manufactured and that the heat treatment shop is solely responsible for the distortion.
The seminar aims to help assess distortion risk during order acceptance or process planning, taking into account the component history and its design. Furthermore, measures for distortion control in manufacturing will be presented. The seminar is divided into four sections. First, the fundamentals of distortion formation are discussed. In the second and third sections, examples of distortion potential in manufacturing chains for through-hardening (ring-shaped components) and case hardening are presented. In the final section, equipment concepts for low-distortion case hardening are presented. The AWT seminar is aimed at heat treatment specialists and materials engineers as well as design engineers, forming specialists, and machining specialists. Participation will be confirmed by a certificate. The date of the seminar will be announced. Non-binding pre-registration using the form is possible.
