Research on ideal conditions

Collaborative Research Centers (SFB) are large-scale projects of basic research bringing together scientists of different work groups and disciplines to get remarkable research developments of a superordinate question. Generally, an SFB project is located at a single location. In the special form of a Transregional Collaborative Research Center (“Trans- Regio”), scientists are typically based at up to three universities. In Germany, the German Research Foundation (DFG) promotes the SFB. In contrast to other instruments of research promotion, the SFB are aimed at a long-term outlook and can be funded up to 12 years of the DFG.
