Light Scattering Simulation

Light scattering simulation is needed in applications such as Optical Particle Characterization and computation of the Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF).

In many applications particles and pigments can no longer be appoximated by spheres.

To compute light scattering by particles of realistic shapes various kinds of software tools have been developed or are commonly applied such

  • Null-field method with discrete sources (NFM-DS)
  • Discrete Sources Method (DSM)
  • T-Matrix Method
  • Multiple Multipole Program
  • DDSCAT
  • Amsterdam DDA
  • CST Microwave Studio
  • FDTD

Within industry funded research projects light scattering by particles and pigments of various shapes and compositions have been computed.
