Mechanical Properties

The department Mechanical Properties analyses mechanical properties of specimens and components and relates them to other material and component properties. From this, models and quantitative descriptions are derived which allow the rediction of strength, life time and mechanical load are derived. Together with other groups at the Institute, methods for enhancement of strength are developed and tested. The concerned materials range from conventional ones, to materials and composites which are manufactured at the Institute as well, and to new material developments.
